Dear Readers,

If all breeders, exhibitors, handlers, dog judges – and, by and large, everyone closely or remotely involved in the FCI’s dog shows and championships – know the exact denomination of our large federation, and even have knowledge of the city and country that are home to its global headquarters, not so long ago, not many inhabitants of Thuin and its neighbouring localities knew about the FCI and its corporate name. But things have changed a lot! The most significant burst in our local promotion scheme took place with the celebration of our Centenary in 2011, when our city was elevated to the status of Thuin, World Capital of Dogs. The latest large-scale campaign was conducted on the occasion of the inauguration of the new extension to our offices in 2015.

21-25 September 2016: 22nd IRO Rescue Dogs World Championship in Turin
Teams from all over the world arrived – black ribbon for earthquake victims in Italy.
Little by little, the participants of the IRO Rescue Dogs World Championship arrived in Turin. Including many rescue dog teams which were only recently in use in central Italy in Amatrice and the surrounding area, after the earthquake.

CKU registry recognised by AKC
At their board meeting on 10th October 2016, the AKC Board of Directors added the China Kennel Union (CKU) registry, to the list of their international registries recognized by the American Kennel Club, for the purpose of issuing AKC registrations to dogs born in mainland China and properly registered with CKU. The recognition is effective immediately.

European Cup for Hounds, Zadar (Croatia) - 14-15 October 2016
Croatia hosted the 24th European Cup for Hounds, together with associated meeting of the FCI Commission for Hounds of the 6th Group. This event took place in beautiful Zadar, precisely at the tourist facility in Borik, which traditionally is a basis for all important canine events, from hunting to shows.

International dog show in Reykjavik, Iceland, 2-4 September
The Icelandic Kennel Club held an international dog show in Reykjavik, Iceland, the first weekend of September. The judge panel was Irish this time and the judges were Mr Sean and Mrs Cathy Delmar, Mr John and Collette Muldoon and Mrs Yvonne Cannon. Total of 600 dogs of 85 different breeds were entered and shown on Saturday and Sunday.

ČMKU Junior Open
The Czech Kennel Club (ČMKU) organised a great weekend event on training grounds in Zbraslav, by Brno city, for young dog lovers. ČMKU Junior Open is a competition for kids and youth handlers up to 18 years, which offers the possibility to start in various canine sports and disciplines.

September-October Dog shows in India
The Madras Canine Club, an affiliate of the Kennel Club of India, hosted its two National All Breed shows and two FCI All Breed Shows along with four specialty shows for Great Danes, Rottweilers, Labrador Retrievers & German Shepherds.

In 1975, Morocco has the privilege to host the FCI General Assembly. The president is Mr M. Messaouden. In five years, since 1970, the number of CACIB shows has arisen from 121 to 167 (total entry: 138,252 dogs), showing a regular increase. A remarkable total of 342 CACIT trials were organised.
